Life as a Coaches Wife

Ok - I have to share a story at my husband's expense. He's a good sport though. (no pun intended)

As some of you know, my husband teaches Chemistry and is the Varsity Assistant Football coach. Last night, I was awakened by my son letting out a moan followed by jibberish, while sleeping. Right afterward, my husband raises his head and looks at the door. "What?" I ask him. He ignores my question. Again I ask, "What?" He mumbles something I cannot distinguish, and rolls over. Getting a little irritated this time, I again and more emphatically ask, "What?" "This is a passing play and I was looking to see if the receivers are going out." I errupted into laughter, waking him a little more and getting him to chuckle too. "Honey, take a break from football for a few hrs and get some rest - K?"

Tonight is the first big game of the season, so I know it's only natural for him to be a little consumed right now. Of course he will continue to be consumed until the last game of the season. Such is the life as a coaches wife. Good thing I love football too! :)

Hi Melanie! How are ya?! Yes, I was so glad to see them get off to a good start - they needed it after last yr. We have a new coach (this is his 2nd season) He is an awesome man, & knows football - but some of the upperclassmen have had some attitude at having to do things different. Last yr we were 1-9 - so we're hoping to turn that around.

    Hi Lepido,
That is awesome about your g-son. I will tell my guys - they will enjoy hearing that (in a coveting sort of way - lol) We will probably be watching him on TV someday!

Zoanna's comment made me think of one little incident that happened when Frank was coaching little league.

I was sitting over in the bleachers, watching Frank standing on the other side of the field, stressing, totally engrossed in his team of kids. Suddenly, one of the other moms, a blonde, moved next to him and he reached over and lovingly "patted" her on the behind. No sooner had he done that than caught sight of me in the bleachers...I'll never forget that "If you're there...then Who...????" look of absolute horror on his face! It was hilarious! Even though he was mortified!

JoJo, I miss you and thinking of you.

    Well...better go practice...

Too funny! Reminds me of my and my husband's honeymoon cruise... our first night... hubby woke up in the middle of the night and yelled "where the heck am I?"... I died laughing and finally decided I should probably let him know he was just fine... we were on a cruise and I was his wife...lol!
Found you through Darlene's blog and wanted to stop in and say Hi!
    Great story!

My husband is the quintessential salesman. He sells Kirbys and it is not uncommon for me to wake up to him mumbling, "Best value...protect your investment...pays for itself..."
I like that he loves what he does. It would stink if he hated it and still had to endure it invading his sleep.

    Hi Madgay,
THis year school started for us on the 15th, which is two days later than it has been starting!

They get out in May, before Memorial day, When it's still cool, and go back the 2nd week in Aug, when it's unbearably hot.

I think it has to do with ISTEP testing and sports. How are you?
